DHANBAD: Union secretary of the department of science and technology Dr S Chandrashekhar on Friday virtually inaugurated the Technology Innovation in Exploration and Mining (TEXMin), a technology innovation hub, at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
The Union secretary lauded the technologies developed by TEXMin including the cutting-edge telematics platform that enables realtime monitoring and optimization of vehicles and asset movements in mines, the web-enabled illumination surveying equipment and AI-powered e-surveillance system which ensures greater safety and enhanced efficiency of workers and called upon the researchers for further development of technologies at advance level to ensure its further use at larger scale by garnering more funds.
“We are glad that the IIT(ISM), having over 97 years’ experience in mining and other earth science study, is carrying forward the National Mission for Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical system of DST,” he added.
While delivering the welcome address institute director professor Rajiv Shekhar threw light on the two-year journey of TEXMin established in 2020 with an aim to establish a centre for carrying out translational research and promote innovation in the field of mining and exploration, said the journey of TEXMin has so far been quite amazing.
“Though, initially we were not very much aware about its potential but a clear picture started emerging gradually with big mining players like Dassault, ESCI, Sandvik, Coal India and Adani joining hands with us,” he added.
Giving details of facilities developed at TEXMin as well as areas of expertise and collaborative work being carried out, deputy director Dheeraj Kumar informed that 21 startups were working at present with TEXMiN as incubates developing one or other innovative technology.
Jeremy Kilburn, provost of Curtin University in Australia, was present during the function as the guest of honour. “Curtin University has collaborated with TEXMin for the production and safer mining operation with aid of latest technology,” he said.
